2013-05-13 Gateshead Library

The first free public library in Gateshead opened in 1896 in Swiburne Street. The building still exists though it is now used as offices:

In 1925 a new library was completed on Prince Consort Road which was officially opened in 1926:


Almost as impressive as the original until you look at the extension added more recently:
